Have some rainbow fun with a tie-dye party that includes free decor printables. My daughter has been missing her friends since school ended and wanted to have some kind of get together with them. I suggested that we tie-dye and she readily agreed. She still wanted a theme, so we decided on Rainbow Fun. In addition to creating colorful clothes to wear, we enjoyed many rainbow snacks.A few weeks before we had the party, I asked people to bring the clothing they wanted to tie-dye over. Since many of these items were new, they needed to be laundered. It’s important to wash out the softeners and stiffeners that come in new clothes so that the dye will properly adhere to the fabric. I labeled each garment and then washed and dried them. I also prepared the dye squirt and spray bottles and had a bath of soda ash ready.
Rainbow Fun Tie-Dye Party
Our party snacks were a lot of fun. We had a rainbow of fruit, colorful crackers, frozen rainbow ice pops, water bottles with rainbow labels, and colorful candy. It was all pretty easy to set up. The rainbow was created with chopped strawberries, peaches, pineapple, grapes, blueberries and blackberries with clouds made out of sliced bananas. I created the frozen rainbow ice pops with strips of rainbow candy and lemon-lime soda. I just had to open the crackers and place them in a bowl, print water labels and tape on water bottles, layer the colorful candy in a glass and display the rainbow lollipops in a foam base.
The snacks were set up against a colorful background with a rainbow fun banner strung on ribbon. I am offering them as free downloads for you to print for your own colorful party. You need to add your own lettering to the lettering. Grab the rainbow party printables here.
The kids had a great time tie-dying. I set up stations in the backyard for them to make their creations. Step one is to soak the fabric in soda ash. This helps hold the dye. Step two is to tie the fabric. The kids did a great job of coming up with their designs. They also enjoyed some snacks at the tying table. Next, it was off to the dye area. I have this set up on the grass.
I have a table set with the dyes. The younger kids put on plastic gloves to keep from dying their hands. The dying itself was done on an old screen set up on saw horses. It’s great for letting excess dye drip through to the ground. I keep a hose nearby to wash off the dye between dying sessions. My son joined the party and created some wild shorts. My daughter sprayed her shirt while it laid on the ground. When the kids were done dying, I placed each item in a plastic bag. I wrote their names on each bag and sent them home with them. I instructed the families to let them sit 24 hours before rinsing thoroughly. I like to rinse my tie-dye outside with a hose. I rinse and rinse until the water runs clear. Then I wash the colorful clothes separately in the washing machine.
When it comes to washing my clothes for tie-dying, I reach for all® free clear detergent. My kids seem to have a sensitivity to some laundry soaps, but we never have any break out issues with all® free clear. It is the #1 detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin. I love how it removes allergens, including cat and dog dander, dust mite matter, ragweed, grass, and tree pollen. all® free clear is not intended to treat or prevent allergies. It is also great for keeping our tie-dyed creations bright. I purchase the all® free clear mighty pacs® to take with us to use when we travel. They are portable, don’t take up much room and work well in washing machines at laundromats. Before use, please follow the instructions on the all® free clear packaging. I purchase all® free clear at Meijer. By the time the dying process was done and we cleaned up the backyard, everyone was hot and tired. We cooled off with frozen rainbow ice pops. They are really cute and so easy to make!Have you ever tie-dyed? Buy all® free clear to keep your colorful clothes bright. That's an epic party! For some reason the themed parties really go over well with the older kids. I've noticed a good visual presentation really sets the atmosphere. I love this idea for a party, it gets harder to impress them as they get older and I like the hands on-ness of tie dye. Great ideas!
