DIY Tie-Dye Socks Tutorial with Pampered Foot Gift Basket

Tie-dye socks are fun and easy to make and are perfect to include in a gift basket.

I’m a colorful person. I love wearing bright colors, especially tie-dyed prints. I have tie-dyed all sorts of things to display and wear, including socks. I recently made some tie-dye socks to be part of a pampered foot gift basket for a friend. Follow the directions below to make your own pair.

Tie-Dye Socks Tutorial

Supplies

white knee socks
rubber bands
soda ash
fabric dye
plastic table cover
rubber gloves
zip-top plastic bags

Directions

Wash and dry the socks.
Soak the socks in a soda ash mixture. Mixing directions can be found on soda ash container.
Tie the socks using rubber bands. I had 3 pairs of socks and I tied each pair in a different pattern. I like my socks to be somewhat symmetrical, so I tied each sock in a pair the same way.
Cover the dying surface with plastic.
Apply dye to socks. Since my dye was in spray bottles, I removed the lid and poured the desired dye over each area of the socks.
Carefully place each pair of socks in a zip-top plastic bag and close the bag.
Lay the bag on a flat surface and let the dye soak in overnight.
Rinse the dye using cold water until the water runs clear. The darkness of the dye will depend on the fibers of the sock. I used acrylic, so the colors faded. The colors will be more vibrant with cotton socks. I like to rinse my socks outside with the hose.
Wash and dry the socks before wearing.
Let the recipient know to wash the socks separately or with like colors for the first several washes.
