What are you favorite movies that involve the sea? Come find out what ours are and see how we enjoyed watching them with this Under the Sea themed family movie night. This post contains free printables that you can use for your very own fishy family movie night.
Last week I was picking up a new Walmart Family Mobile phone and I got a sample of Swedish Fish. When I got up to the check-out I saw a big display of large bags of Swedish Fish. I picked up a few because I thought it would be fun to have a fish-themed family movie night. We decided to start with an early viewing party so we could get in all of the movies on our list and enjoy all the fun food.
I started planning the party by thinking of foods with an ocean theme. Since this was serving as dinner as well as snacking, I made sure to have a balance of foods. I used a fish cookie cutter to make fish-shaped bread for Tuna Fish sandwiches. Vegetables were dipped into Seaweed Dip, which was spinach artichoke dip. The fruit platter had grapes, Dolphin bananas, and Starfish made with watermelon and pineapple cut with star-shaped cookie cutters. Sushi was made with fig cookies, Swedish Fish, and strips of fruit leather. We drank a blue Ocean Punch that had Swedish Fish in it. While we watched our second feature we enjoyed a Fish Food sweet & sour snack mix, and then we enjoyed Fish Cakes (cupcakes) during the final movie.
Sweet & Sour Snack Movie Snack Mix
Ingredients
rice squares cereal
multi-grain circles cereal
1 stick of butter
2-3 teaspoons of salt
pretzel twists
Swedish Fish
Sour Patch Kids
Directions
In a large bowl, mix the cereals and set aside.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir in the salt.
Pour the butter over the cereal mix.
Stir thoroughly to cover all the cereal mix.
Spread the snack mix out over two cookie sheets and bake in a 250-degree oven for an hour, stirring and rotating shelves every 15 minutes.
After an hour, remove the cookie sheets and let the snack mix cool.
Put the cereal mix, pretzels, Swedish Fish, and Sour Patch Kids into the large bowl.
Thoroughly stir until the snack mix is well mixed. Serve and enjoy!
Store leftovers in an airtight container. Our oceanic family movie night line-up included Shark Tale, Finding Nemo, and Dolphin Tale. We enjoyed our movies on VUDU, because the new Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan includes Unlimited Talk, Text, Data; 10GB 4G LTE plus a free movie (rental, new release = $7 value) on VUDU every month, per line for $49.88. This PLUS plan includes more data at a value with 10GB of 4G LTE. We viewed our free VUDU on one of our tablets.
Our family loves Walmart Family Mobile. With the affordable phones, we can change models when we want. We just picked up a new LG G Stylo for $179.00, which was on Rollback from $199.00. This smartphone holds it own, especially with a teen who uses it all evening and weekend. The battery life is good and the camera is perfect for all those Snaps. Walmart Family Mobile is easy. Just grab your phone of choice, a Starter Kit, and activate. The Starter Kits are cheaper than before. They used to be $25 and are now on rollback for just $19.88.Disclaimer: All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to http://cbi.as/3nukn or your local Walmart for current pricing.
While you are at Walmart look for Swedish Fish in the 1.9 lb. bag, which is on Rollback for $4.48. Swedish Fish has all new packaging and can be found near the checkout or in the candy aisle. New Look! Same Fish! Treat yourself to Data and a Movie with Walmart Family Mobile and Swedish Fish!
I created cute party decorations that I am offering as a free printable for you. My movie night banner is flanked by fish. Those big red fish were inspired by Swedish Fish and can be grabbed here. The blue dot blank banners can be grabbed here. The matching food label cards can be grabbed here. Click the download arrow at the top of each freebie. I recommend printing on letter size card stock with best quality settings picked.
