Need a spice cake mix but can’t find one in the store? Create one yourself using a yellow cake mix.
Tomorrow I have a fantastic apple spice cake recipe to share with you. It’s a recipe made with a spice cake mix. I searched a few stores and could not find a spice cake mix. I’ve had this trouble in the past. I’ve substituted a yellow cake mix for a spice cake mix before, but it wasn’t quite the same. A friend told me to just make my own with some spices and a yellow cake mix. She shared her recipe with me and said I could pass it onto you.
This cake mix uses four spices that you probably have on hand. You need ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, and ground ginger. I used to think that allspice was a mixture of other spices. I learned that it’s actually made from a dried fruit from a special myrtle tree that is grown in various warm places around the world. Whatever it is, it’s a great spice to have on hand!
Spice Cake Mix
You start out with a yellow cake mix. Any brand will work. I often buy a store brand. I put that in a bowl and add the ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, and ground ginger. There isn’t very much of each spice, but they really make a difference. Once the mix is created, you can complete the cake according to the package directions. I love to take cake mixes and turn them into something fantastic. Tomorrow’s cake is no exception to that.
Simple, but flavorful! Do you have these ingredients on hand? Make sure you come back tomorrow to see my apple spice dump cake.
