Looking for a unique gift idea for the beach lover in your life? Here is a fun craft created using items from the beach.
Last month I brought you a series of beach craft posts. I am back with another round of crafts that are inspired by the beach but are completed at home.
Back in March, we took a spring break trip to coastal Alabama. I went armed with supplies for beach crafts. My supplies included a wooden letter that I planned on personalizing with sand and shells. It ended up raining before this craft was complete, so I brought it home to finish. This craft can be created entirely at home with supplies you purchase or brought home from the beach.
Beach Craft: Decorated Letter
decoupage or similar glue
hot glue gun
Apply a generous layer of decoupage over the front of the surface of your letter.
Press sand into the wet glue.
When the glue has completely dried, shake the excess sand off. Make sure to give it plenty of time to dry. It might take longer than you think as the air at the beach is often humid.
Plug in your hot glue gun and let it heat up.
Create a layout of shells on your letter to get an idea of placement before you glue them in place.
Glue shells in place, using liberal amounts of glue.
Make sure to hold each shell in place until the glue has dried.
Keep gluing on shells until the letter is covered the way you want it. You can cover a part or the entire letter. I decided to just over part of my D.
Hang your letter in your desired location.
This is a fun craft that serves as a reminder of our vacation to Alabama. My daughter and I both have first names starting with D, so there seems to be confusion as to who this is for. Someone else in the family pointed out their middle name starts with D, that Dad starts with D, and that dog starts with D. I’ve just displayed it in a prominent area of our home and we all enjoy it for ourselves!
