We love fall camping because we get to bundle up while enjoying the cooler weather. Poking sticks in the campfire and eating a hot meal in the cold air are among our favorite activities. We’ve camped a few times this fall and it’s been so nice and relaxing. I recently made this Pumpkin Pie Dump Cake in the dutch oven. Our neighbors happened to be camping at the same campground and got to enjoy this dessert with us.
Pumpkin Pie Dump Cake Recipe
This recipe is super easy to make. You mix up the pumpkin pie ingredients and then pour it into a dutch oven. Then the other ingredients are dumped on top. I recommend that you use dutch oven liners.
We prepare our charcoal with one of these charcoal chimneys. It lets you quickly prepare the charcoal without using any lighter fluid. This is how we lay out the prepared charcoal for the dutch oven.
This was the first time I made this dump cake and I am pleased how it turned out. Usually the dump cakes with soda really rise when baked in the dutch oven, but this one did not. It turned out to have about an inch of perfect sponge cake on top of the baked pumpkin pie.
The cake was really good. My neighbors really liked it, especially the pecans. I want to make it for Thanksgiving, although I am not sure if I will do it outside with charcoal and the dutch oven or in the oven inside. If you use your dutch oven in your oven, reduce the baking time.
