Want to remember your beach vacation in a special way? Create this vacation keepsake ornament souvenir using sand and shells from the beach you visited.
Last month we enjoyed a lovely family vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Our trip included fun in the sand and surf, nice long walks on the beach, and amazing Gulf of Mexico sunsets. I did a little planning and brought along supplies for beach crafts. I’ve already shown you How to Color Sand and our Sand Art Bottles. This week I am showing you how to create a one-of-a-kind ornament that will invoke those fond memories of your time by the shore.
Make your Own Beach Vacation Keepsake Ornament Craft
skewer or thin stick
sand and shells from the beach
ribbon or ornament hanger
Write your vacation information on the side of the glass ornament using the paint marker. I wrote Spring Break 2106 Alabama.
Remove the metal topper lid from the bulb.
Using a funnel, slowly add sand into the bottom of the ornament. I recommend 1/4-1/3 full.
Drop the shells, seaweed, and other little items collected at the beach into the bulb.
Replace the metal topper lid.
Add a ribbon or ornament hanger to the loop on the top of the glass bulb.
Take home and hang the ornament on your tree.
Look! You created a unique keepsake to remember your trip that was fun and easy to make. I’ve seen premade ornaments and bottles with sand and shells in those numerous gift shops that line the beach boulevards, but why spend money on something that is not personal? Here is the beach keepsake bottle I made a few years ago.
